YouthGrow Farms is a youth-led hydroponic farming initiative providing fresh, sustainably-grown produce to food desert communities — while building the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers.
YouthGrow Farms is creating a food-secure future through school-based, youth-led hydroponic farming. We bring fresh, sustainably-grown produce directly into the neighborhoods that need it most — food desert communities where access to nutritious fruits and vegetables has been limited for generations.
We're not just growing food. We're cultivating health equity, educational opportunity, and economic empowerment for all New Yorkers and communities nationwide.
We believe access to healthy food is a fundamental human right — not a privilege. Our vision is a world where food desert communities have the capacity to grow and distribute their own fresh, nutritious, culturally appropriate, and affordable produce. We are catalyzing a movement where young people in underserved communities become producers of their own food, informed consumers, and architects of solutions to the challenges that shape their lives.
We install advanced hydroponic and aeroponic vertical farming systems directly inside schools and community centers. These compact, indoor gardens use up to 90% less water than traditional agriculture and grow produce year-round — regardless of weather, season, or available land.
Students take ownership of every stage — from seeding and nutrient management to harvesting and distribution. Along the way, they gain real-world experience in STEM disciplines, sustainable agriculture, business operations, and community leadership that opens doors to future careers.
Harvested produce goes directly to families in food desert neighborhoods through our food pantry network, local partnerships, and community distribution events. Every head of lettuce, every bunch of herbs, every tomato is grown locally by young people for their own community.
Every tower we build, every student we train, and every family we serve moves us closer to a future where zip code doesn't determine access to fresh food.
YouthGrow Farms is a socially conscious nonprofit organization operating at the intersection of food justice, youth development, and sustainable agriculture. We are a certified hydroponic and aeroponic organic food producer, a youth education organization, and a licensed food pantry serving families who meet established eligibility requirements.
Our model is intentionally designed to address multiple systemic challenges at once. When a young person learns to grow food using cutting-edge technology, they're not just learning agriculture — they're building skills that translate to careers in biotechnology, environmental science, engineering, nutrition, and entrepreneurship.
In too many urban neighborhoods, the nearest source of fresh produce is miles away — but the nearest fast food restaurant is on every corner. YouthGrow Farms is changing that equation by placing high-yield growing systems directly in the communities that need them most.
Our approach delivers high-quality, organic produce to underserved families while simultaneously providing meaningful work experience, leadership opportunities, and career pathways for local young people. Through advanced hydroponics, we demonstrate that solutions to food insecurity can be community-driven, technology-enabled, and youth-powered.
Whether you're a school, a corporation, a foundation, or an individual who believes every community deserves access to fresh food — there's a place for you at YouthGrow Farms.
